‘A splash of color can get your life flowing’. This simple phrase speaks volumes about the feelings of 35 inmates of Burail Jail, Chandigarh who underwent the Gulaal Training Workshop organized by Antarkranti. Antarkranti is a social initiative of DJJS (Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan) which is working towards the rehabilitation and resurrection of Jail inmates in the mainstream of the society.

Antarkranti under its Vocational Training and Livelihood wing organized a 3 day Gulaal Training session from February 27 to March 1, 2017 in the prison premises of Burail Jail, Chandigarh.

A group of  35 inmates selected to undergo the training mainly witnessed the presence of young minds with 28 inmates in the age group 18 to 21 who zealously went about every stage of the workshop from production to packaging. Thrill and excitement shone through their faces as they efficiently churned out colours of different hues as per the instructors’ directions.

The initiative of Antarkranti received an overwhelming response not only from the inmates but also from the authorities who whole- heartedly welcomed the idea. The Inspector General of Prisons, Chandigarh visited the training site and lauded Antarkranti for the immense efforts put in the field of Prison reforms.

The training session, for the inmates was an opportunity to equip themselves with a new skill set and they grabbed it with both hands. Many of them even expressed their desire to continue working on Gulaal production as their post-rehabilitation job.

With the training workshop, Antarkranti aimed at facilitating the inmates to give small touches of color in their emotional, social, financial and spiritual facets of life and seems to have been successful in adding a dash of joyfulness in their otherwise mundane life.
